Nemos!
The Nemo Program is for 4 to 7 year-old swimmers who would like to be part of the swim team but need to work on refining their strokes and building up their endurance so that they can swim full lengths. The goal is that by the end of the current season or the next season the swimmer would be able to be part of the regular swim team.
The Nemo program will be run by Coach Bryn, with the assistance of Coaches Jordan and Caroline as well as Junior Coaches Reagan and Reese.
Two Nemo Options for 2024:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday Practices: $100
Tuesday and Thursday Practices: $75
Practice: Practices begin on Monday, June 17. Practices will be held 7:30-8:00 on Mondays, Wednedays, Fridays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays, through July 26.
Minimum requirement: swim the width of the pool without stopping and able to jump-in at the deep end. Please don’t register your child unless they can do this on the first day.
Meets: There will be 3 mini-meets where the kids will have a chance to swim down the full length of the pool, two at a time. Mini-meets are scheduled for three Wednesdays: TBD starting at 6:30pm at the Berrywood Pool.
Volunteer requirements: You must be able to help at mini-meets and the end-of-season celebration. If your child starts to swim in the big meets, you will need to be able to volunteer at those meets.
Which one is the right fit?
Since a child's swimming ability varies widely in the 4-7 age range, swim team is based on ability rather than age. Please use the following guidance when trying to find the right fit for your swimmer.
Marlins team: Child must be able to swim the full length of the pool without assistance, and without stopping.
Nemos program: Child must be able to swim across the width of the shallow end without stopping, and jump in at the deep end. Please don't register your child for this program unless they are able to do this on the first day. Will work on stroke development and endurance with the goal being able to participate in swim team by the end of the season, or the following year.
Typically a child can move up from the Nemo program to the swim team during the first two weeks of the season if the child has shown the ability to swim the full length of the pool. It is not advised to try swim team, and then need to move down to the Nemos program, as it is usually full. If necessary, we will maintain a Nemos waitlist for the first two weeks, in the case that a current Nemo moves up to the Marlins swim team.
